About The Role

We at The Huntercombe Group are looking for a Lead Speech and Language Therapist to join our Specialist Brain Injury and Neurological Care Service at Stocksbridge Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Neurological Care Centre.

The centre is a specialist facility providing both long-term and short-term person-centred rehabilitation, care and support for male and female adults (aged 18+ years) with a brain injury or other complex neurological conditions.
 
As the Lead Speech and Language Therapist you will:
 
  • Take responsibility for the development and management of SLT service and staff.
  • Ensure practice is evidence based where possible, using national SLT clinical standards.
  • Contribute to the Centre’s service development as requested by the Centre Management
  • Offer support to create best practice communicative environments.
  • Take a lead role in Speech & Language Therapy (SLT) assessment and management of service users with communication (or swallowing disorders), maintaining high standards of clinical care and working with in a multidisciplinary team frame work.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide specialist management and management of communication and swallowing disorders.
  • To manage the SLT service in relation to staffing, service and organisational issues.
  • To ensure accurate documentation of assessment, treatment and outcome measures across the whole department are maintained.
  • To take an active part in the key worker scheme.
  • To initiate and take a lead role in the development of SLT dept policies, guidelines and service developments.
  • To lead and under take research and audit activity with in the SLT department and across the service at the request of the Head of Department.
  • To initiate and take lead role in the multi-disciplinary team service developments.
  • Ensure the provision of a high quality SLT service and it’s place with in the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Coordinate the induction and training of all new SLT staff, SLT students and participate in the induction and training of wider multi-disciplinary team members and key stake holders.
  • To organise and provide specialist training to SLT staff and the wider MDT in collaboration with other Head of Departments.
  • Take responsibility for the CPD, supervision and annual appraisal of SLT staff.
  • Take responsibility for own professional & personal development through performance and development reviews and attending all relevant training regular supervision at an appropriate level.
  • Ensure that all relevant codes of practice and regulations (MHA1983 & Care Standards 2000) are upheld.
  • Contribute and adhere to risk management strategies for an individual service users
  • To participate in the admissions process of the service as requested by the Centre Management.
  • To participate in outcome measurement and regular review of service delivery.
  • To comply with all company policies and procedures including Health & Safety and Fire Safety etc.
